When should I give my dog fipronil spray?
Fipronil (brand names: Frontline®, Barricade®, Easyspot®, Effipro®, Sentry Fiproguard®, Parastar®, PetArmor®, Pronyl OTC®, Spectra Sure®, and many others) is a topical medication used to treat fleas, ticks, and chewing lice infestations in dogs and cats.
How often can I apply fipronil?
Recommended application intervals for fipronil spot ons are as follows: Spray: up to 12 wks for fleas on dogs and 8 wks for fleas on cats; FAD apply monthly; 3 wks for paralysis ticks, 4 wks for brown dog tick. Dog spot ons: monthly for fleas, FAD and brown dog tick; 2 wkly for paralysis tick.
When should Frontline be applied?
FRONTLINE PLUS FOR DOGS should be applied every 2 weeks for control of paralysis ticks on dogs, or every month for control of brown dog ticks. FRONTLINE SPRAY should be applied every 3 weeks for control of paralysis ticks on cats and dogs, or every month for the control of brown dog ticks.
How do you apply fipronil insecticide?
Apply around entry way points like windows, molding around doorways, voids behind baseboards. Do not spray a s full surface spray. It is intended for localized areas of existing or potential insect activity. Fipronil-Plus-C Insecticide must not be applied to indoor surfaces for the purposes of general pest control.
Can I apply Frontline early?
Yes, if after two weeks the flea preventive you applied isn’t working, you can reapply flea treatment early, or switch to another brand.
What if my dog licks fipronil?
Treated animals can ingest fipronil through licking or grooming. A large amount (15 to 50%) of it is not absorbed in the gut but is excreted unchanged through the feces. The rest is absorbed into blood and is partially metabolized.
How long does fipronil last?
When using a Fipronil, keep in mind that it is a slow-acting chemical. It can take 24 to 36 hours to kill the target pest but the active ingredient does have a long-time residual which can last up to 90 days, meaning you don’t have to reapply as often unless you have a very large infestation.
How soon can I reapply flea treatment?
The known safe answer is to wait the period of time the product is supposed to work, typically 30 days, before reapplying. An alternative is to bathe the pet in a detergent shampoo (meant to strip off skin oils) and reapply after 24 hours.
How much fipronil do I need for ants?
Treat the nest entrance or mound, and where ants are active away from the nest. Apply at the rate of 1 L of prepared suspension per 16 m2 or 60 mL per m2.
What happens if you put flea medicine on too soon?
If you are finding fleas on your pet even after applying your pet’s topical flea treatment, you might consider reapplying it early. However, this solution is not always recommended and may lead to an overdose in some rare cases.
Can I apply Frontline twice in one month?
If a pet still has fleas, many veterinarians will use the product more frequently than once monthly, sometimes as often as once every 2-3 weeks. However, this process is often considered to be “off label use,” and I would not use the product this way unless first speaking with your pet’s veterinarian.

On our dogs and cats the Fipronil spreads over the body with the body oils in about 24 hours after application killing 100% of the fleas or ticks within 24-48 hours. Fleas and ticks are generally killed before they bite decreasing the risk of flea allergy dermatitis and tick-borne disease transmission.
