Can HackRF transmit?
HackRF One is capable of receiving and transmitting on a frequency range of 1 MHz to 6 GHz with maximum output power of up to 15 dBm depending on the band. The unit comes with an SMA antenna port, clock input and clock output SMA ports, and a USB 2.0 port.
What can you listen to with SDR?
You can do various different things using an SDR as follows:
- Receive broadcast radio.
- Amateur radio.
- Radio astronomy.
- Track ships via AIS transmissions.
- Track aircraft via Mode S transmissions.
- Set up a DRM transmitter.
- Build a GSM network.
- Experiment with LTE.
Can you transmit using SDR?
It depends on the SDR. If you have the right hardware, yes you can, but not with the RTL-SDR. Some transmission capable SDRs include the HackRF, PlutoSDR, LimeSDR, LimeSDR Mini, and more.
Do I need a license for SDR?
No License is required to purchase the equipment or to receive (listen), however, an FCC License is required to transmit on Amateur Radio frequencies in the USA.
Do you need a license for RTL SDR?
You do not need a license to receive; only to transmit – and RTL-SDRs are receive only. However, getting your HAM radio technician license will help you to learn and use the important concepts needed for radio hacking.
What is a HackRF PortaPack?
Description. The PortaPack attaches to your HackRF and adds a touchscreen display, navigation controls, headphone jack, a real-time clock, and micro SD card slot. Just add a USB battery, and you’re ready to explore radio spectrum wherever you are. The PortaPack firmware runs on the fast ARM processors in your HackRF.
What is Rtlsdr?
RTL-SDR (RealTek) is a low-cost USB device that can be used as a computer-based radio for receiving live radio signals. Depending on the RTL-SDR it could receive frequencies from 500 kHz up to 1.75 GHz.
How does a SDR work?
An SDR performs significant amounts of signal processing in a general purpose computer, or a reconfigurable piece of digital electronics. The goal of this design is to produce a radio that can receive and transmit a new form of radio protocol just by running new software.
