Is the snail the Lich?
The Snail is a character that has hidden in every episode of Adventure Time to date Adventure Time (Pilot), usually seen waving at the screen. His cameos are a running gag. In the episode “Mortal Folly,” The Lich possesses the Snail to break the amber prison where he is trapped.

Why was Gunther Ice King?
Simon felt alone and wanted his princess (Betty) and turned him into an overly emotional, sad, and princess-stealing Ice King. Well, this emotional overload the crown tends to have is why it fused with Gunter. It decided he was Ice King and fused so that it can never lose it’s owner ever again.
What did the Lich do to Billy?
After The Lich was freed by the hypnotized snail he controlled, he killed Billy in vengeance and wore his body like a costume, using the corpse of the hero to manipulate Finn and Jake to get to The Time Room.
Why did Finn’s dad leave him?
Later, the reason Martin abandoned Finn is revealed in a flashback in the Islands miniseries where he and baby Finn are chased off from an island as a result of Martin’s past con-artist ways. To protect Finn, Martin defeated the guardian that thought they were trying to escape the island on a raft.
