Can you use AeroGarden as a seed starter?
With the AeroGarden Seed Starting System, you can use your AeroGarden to start seedlings for transplanting into an outdoor garden. You can start your Spring plants like lettuce and broccoli, then clean your tray and start over with Summer plants such as tomatoes and cucumbers.
Can you start plants in an AeroGarden?
The AeroGarden seed starting system helps plants sprout much faster than traditional, soil-based sowing. Consistent moisture and bright, broad spectrum light produce strong, stocky seedlings that are ready to transplant in about a week.
How do you sprout seeds in AeroGarden?
- Lift up the grow deck of your AeroGarden and fill the chamber below with distilled water.
- Insert three seeds into each seed pod you intend to plant.
- Program the Smart Garden system at the bottom of the AeroGarden per specific instructions from the Grow Anything kit.
- Inspect your AeroGarden weekly.
How long do AeroGarden pods last?
We guarantee germination for 1 year from the date of purchase of the seed pod kit. However, typically the seeds remain viable for 2 years if stored properly.
How many seeds do you put in AeroGarden?
Typically we recommend planting around 3 seeds per pod, for better success of germination rates. It is best to reference the back of your seed packet for information on that particular plant. Sometimes you will only plant one seed (large seeds like squash) or up to 5 (very tiny seeds like kale.)

Can you reuse AeroGarden sponges?
No. You can not reuse the sponges. The roots will grow through the sponge.
How do you use the AeroGarden seed pod kit?
Place Grow Domes over the Seed Pods. Leave the Domes on the Pods until plants nearly touch the Domes, then remove*. Instructions for use of nutrients are printed on the nutrient package. Add nutrients directly into the water bowl at start-up, and when the ‘Add Nutrient’ reminder activates (every two weeks).
Do tomatoes grow well in AeroGarden?
I never bothered with changing the water before I grew tomatoes– I had no issues with other kinds of plants in the Aerogarden. But tomatoes are one of the longest-producing crops for the Aerogarden. Reportedly the tomatoes can keep on producing for up to year after the first harvest.
Should I prune my tomato plants in my AeroGarden?
No maintenance required. Fun Fact: When tomatoes are grown outdoors there is usually no need to prune them, however we recommend pruning AeroGarden tomatoes to keep them small and compact and produce maximum harvests. No maintenance required. (Your seedlings are too young to prune).
