What does FLX mean Noctua?
Hello. This term is mostly for Noctua fans: FLX means Flex or Flexible. It usually comes with a switch system to choose between 3 or more speeds, depending on your use, thus the “flexible” name. ULN means Ultra Low Noise.
Is Noctua a PWM?
Supporting fully automatic PWM speed control, the NF-F12 uses Noctua’s novel, custom-designed NE-FD1 PWM IC that integrates Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology. By providing smoother torque impulses, SCD suppresses PWM switching noises and thus makes the fan quieter at lower speeds.
Are Noctua fans PWM or DC?
Connector: Noctua fans are available with standard 3-pin and 4-pin PWM connectors. The latter can be identified by the “PWM” designation. Choose 4-pin PWM versions if you would like to use the PWM fan speed control of your motherboard (or other devices).
Which Noctua fan is best for intake?
For best results in all types of application, Noctua recommends the NF-A12x25. Alternatively, the NF-F12 is a pressure-optimised fan that excels on heatsinks and radiators and the NF-S12A is an airflow-optimised fan that provides excellent results as a case fan and in other low- to mid-impedance applications.
Is PWM better than FLX?
FLX covers more range in terms of fan RPM. see less PWM fans have 4-pin connectors and the speeds can be controlled by your motherboard, usually see those connectors on cpu heatsinks. ULN and FLX have 3-pin connectors and can only be controlled by voltage adapters supplied by Noctua or a fan controller etc.
What is 3-pin FLX?
3-pin FLX version provides 2000/1700/1350rpm speed settings via Low-Noise Adaptors to fine-tune the fan for maximum airflow or near-silent operation. Includes anti-vibration mounts, radiator gasket, fan screws, extension cable and 3:4-pin adaptor for powering the fan directly from the power supply.
Can I use a PWM fan without PWM?
Yes! PWM fans come with a 4-pin connectors for fully automatic speed control via your mainboard’s 4-pin PWM fan headers. Please note that 4-pin fans can also be connected to your mainboard’s 3-pin fan headers though.
Are Noctua fans PWN?
Ships from United States. The Noctua NF-F12 PWM Case Fan 120mm fan provides focused airflow with outstanding air pressure ideal for heatsinks, radiators and other pressure demanding applications….Learn more about the Noctua NF-F12 PWM.

Should I use PWM or DC?
PWM fans will usually set you back more, but use less power and produce less noise. DC fans are likely just as effective and cheaper, but they will also be noisier. One thing to consider is the number of 4-pin connectors on your motherboard.
Is PWM or DC better?
The duty cycle of the PWM signal controls the speed of the fan motor….PWM Fans or 4-Pin Fans.
DC Fan | PWM Fan |
---|---|
Precise speed control is difficult | Seamless speed control |
Limited in reducing speed below that which corresponds to the minimum threshold voltage | The minimum speed achieved can be below DC fans |
Why are Noctua fans so quiet?
There are two big ones for this design. The first is that it allows the fan to be quieter. A lot of work goes into creating a near-silent fan. The entire unit vibrates, causing noise, which is why Noctua and some other companies package their fans with anti-vibration pads on the corners.
Which Noctua fans are static pressure?
NF-F12: The NF-F12’s unique Focused Flow™ system produces extremely high static pressure and focuses the airflow in order to achieve even better results on air cooling heatsinks and water cooling radiators.
