The Manufacturer of Butinox (Jotun Paints) have replaced this product with their Higher quality Jotun “Demidekk Ultimate” brand which offers up to 12 years between repaints rather than 8 years with the current Butinox No3 and its available in the same colours.
What is Butinox?
Jotun Demidekk was previously known as Butinox and is a high quality woodcare range including decking stains, wood paints and exterior woodstains.
Can you paint over Demidekk?
Demidekk Ultimate is easy to apply and fast drying, leaving you with an opaque coating with a rich consistency. It offers long-lasting colour, gloss retention and unbeatable protection. Use on new and painted woodwork and metal surfaces with a suitable primer.
Is Demidekk oil based?
Demidekk Ultimate is a fully waterbased external opaque, with flexibility and mould growth inhibitors. Very similar in feel to Zinsser Allcoat which is probably the brand leader in this type of product.

I have a large wooden shed that has a previous coating of butinox 2 antique red applied a few years ago. I would like to repaint and wonder can I apply butinox 3 antique red on top of the existing old butinox 2 coating? Yes you can after cleaning and lightly sanding to provide a key, but Jotun Butinox Futura 3 is being discontinued.
How do you paint over butinox Futura?
If the timber is bare hardwood, you should clean prior to painting with methylated spirits to remove the surface oils, be sure to change the face of the cloth during cleaning. Then apply 1 coat of Jotun Butinox Futura 3 thinned 10% with clean, cold water as the primer coat.
How do I paint over Jotun VISIR clear primer?
If the timber is bare softwood, apply 1 coat of Jotun Visir Clear Primer by brush. Allow to dry and then apply 2 coats of Jotun Butinox Futura 3 in the desired colour.
