How can I get more horsepower out of my Chevy 305?
- Replace the exhaust manifold. The stock exhaust manifold of the 305 engine restricts air flow from the engine increasing back pressure.
- Replace the intake manifold and carburetor.
- Add cold air induction.
- Replace the computer chip.
How much hp can a chevy 305 make?
I completely agree that a 305 can be built to make 450 hp. That’s not too difficult. The engine is limited to smaller heads with 1.94-inch valves because larger 2.02-inch valves won’t clear the cylinder wall.
How long does a 305 engine last?
How long really depends on how you use it and how you take care of it. I had one (a 305) that was probably ready for a rebuild at 120,000. I’ve also had friends that make it to 150,000 and they still run like new. Sounds like yours is fine, from what you said.
Is a 305 a good motor?
Whether you’re considering the potential profit or not, the Chevy 305 is a very reliable V8 that gets amazing fuel economy for its era. It may not be the most powerful option there ever was, but owners can fix that with aftermarket modifications if that’s what you’re after.
Is a 305 engine any good?
305 is a good motor.. it is a torque maker.. and the ones with TPI made nice torque.. they are timing limited when running 87 fuel.. it cost nothing more to build a 350.. and that IS the reason no one likes the 305..
Can you put 350 heads on a 305 engine?
Virtually any 350 heads will work on a 305. The high compression 350 heads are similiar in combustion chamber size & intake valve size to the 305 heads & will give a 305 the same performance as if using 305 heads.
Can a 305 be bored out to 350?
You can’t bore a 305 out to a 350, but if you want to increase your 305 block displacement, you could add a stroker crank and wind up with a 331.
