What angle should my transducer be at?
The transducer should be mounted nose-up about three degrees in relation to the plane of the hull bottom. Sometimes a transducer mounted parallel with the hull bottom also works fine, but even the slightest nose-down angle can cause turbulence or cavitation that kills performance.
How far down do you mount the transducer?
What is the best transducer mounting height? The best transducer mounting height is at the bottom edge of the transom, with the lower surface of the transducer protruding about 1/32 to 1/16 inches below the bottom of the boat.
Where do you place the side imaging transducer?
On outboard or inboard/outboard boats, it is best to locate the transducer at least 15″ to the side of the propeller(s). The best way to locate turbulence-free water is to view the transom while the boat is moving. This method is recommended if maximum high-speed operation is a high priority.
Does it matter which way your transducer faces?
So the short answer is that no, it doesn’t matter which way you face the “front” of your transducer.. the read out is going to look just the same to you. You do, however, want the BOTTOM of your transducer to face as straight down as you can, within reason.
Should transducer be level with bottom of boat?
The transducer should be even with the bottom of the boat or slightly below the bottom. Leading edge (the edge closest to the transom of the boat). One click too high: the transducer is tilted out of the water and cannot maintain a sonar signal.
How do I make sure transducer level?
Leveling Your Boat Make sure that the boat is level on the trailer, both from port to starboard and from bow to stern, by placing your level on the deck of the boat, first in one direction, then in the other. The transducer must be level with the bottom of the hull to ensure accurate depth readings.
How deep in the water should a transducer be?
Tip # 3 Waterline Thirdly the best bet when mounting your transducer to read at speed is to have the bottom of it 3-4 mm below the waterline. Because the transducer can only ping in water so you do want it submerged. If it’s too deep sometimes the front face of it will create turbulence and bubbles = bad.
Which side of the boat should a transducer be mounted?
starboard
The location should be as close to the center of the boat as possible, but on the side of the downward swing the propeller. On the majority of boats, this will be on the starboard (right) side.
Can you turn transducer sideways?
The air bladder in a fish is fairly round, so it doesn’t matter much which direction the sonar hits it from. Us side-scan users get fish echoes from nearly directly sideways all the time. Your transducer will pick up fish if pointed horizontally under the ice, however it will only read at the scale it is set at.
Does transducer need to be level?
The transducer must be level with the bottom of the hull to ensure accurate depth readings. You can use the following tips to make sure your boat is level when out of the water.
